Welcome to My World of Music

I am Merlin Shakaj, a passionate flutist and dedicated flute instructor with a love for music that has flourished since childhood. My journey began at the age of 10 and has led me through a rich tapestry of experiences, education, and artistic growth.

Educational Background

My formal music education started at the Jordan Misja Music Liceum, where I developed my foundational skills in flute performance. I continued my studies at the University of Arts in Tirana, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance. To further refine my artistry, I pursued advanced studies at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where I obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Flute Performance.

Professional Journey

With over a decade of experience in the field, I have had the privilege to perform on some of the most renowned stages across the globe. My role as principal and second flute with the Radio and Television Orchestra of Albania has allowed me to collaborate with esteemed conductors and immerse myself in a diverse repertoire. I have also showcased my versatility while performing with notable organizations, including the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff and the Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to performing, I am deeply committed to education. Since 2017, I have inspired young musicians as a faculty member at the Oxfordshire County Music Service and recently joined the faculty at Shiplake College. Teaching is one of my greatest passions, and I take joy in nurturing the next generation of flutists.

Personal Interests

Outside of music, I find joy and relaxation in gardening. The beauty of nature not only inspires me but also enriches my musical expression. Traveling is another passion of mine; exploring different cultures and experiences continually fuels my creativity and broadens my horizons.

My philosophy revolves around the belief that music is a universal language that has the power to connect people across cultures. Through my performances and teaching, I strive to share the beauty of music and encourage others to discover their own unique voices. I am dedicated to fostering an environment where creativity flourishes, and every student feels empowered to express themselves through music.
